18β-Glycyrrhetinic Acid CAS 471-53-4

Glycyrrhetinic acid is an oleanane-type pentacyclic triterpenoid compound extracted from the rhizomes of the leguminous plants Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Glycyrrhiza inflata or Glycyrrhiza glabra. The molecular formula is C30H46O4, the molecular weight is 470.68, and there are two configurations, 18α-glycyrrhetinic acid (18α-glycyrrhetinic acid) and 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid (18β-glycyrrhetinic acid). The former is a flaky crystal with a melting point of 283°C, an optical rotation of +140.0 (ethanol) and an optical rotation of +163.0 (chloroform), while the latter is a needle-shaped crystal with a melting point of 296°C and an optical rotation of +86.0 (ethanol). Both are easily soluble in chloroform, methanol and ethanol. A series of derivatives with different physiological activities can be obtained by structurally modifying the active sites of glycyrrhetinic acid such as the hydroxyl group at C-3, the carbonyl group at C-11 and the carboxyl group at C-30.
