Methyl Orange CAS 547-58-0 MO

Methyl Orange is orange powder or flaky crystals, insoluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in hot water, made from p-aminobenzenesulfonic acid by diazotization reaction coupled with N,N-dimethylaniline. Methyl Orange is used as acid-base titration indicator with 0.1% concentration (0.1g of Methyl Orange can be dissolved in 100ml of hot water), it exists in acidic solution in the form of sulfonic acid, due to the sulfonic acid group can form an inner salt with the basic dimethylammonium group in the molecule, so that a benzene ring is transformed into a quinone structure and turned into red color. Methyl orange in neutral or alkaline solution, it is in the form of sodium sulfonate salt and yellow, the pH value of the discoloration range is 3.1 to 4.4.
