Lauryl azetone is a novel skin permeation enhancer first reported by the American scientist Stoughton in the early 1980s. Its chemical name is 1-n-dodecylazepin-2-one, commonly abbreviated as azetone. At room temperature, azetone is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, and non-irritating, oily, transparent liquid. It is lubricious, easy to apply, and highly penetrating. As a widely used organic chemical, it has garnered increasing attention due to its highly effective transdermal properties and non-toxic safety profile. It promotes the transdermal penetration of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic compounds.
