L-Valine CAS 72-18-4

L-valine, also known as 2-amino-3-methylbutanoic acid, has the chemical formula C5H11NO2. It is a white monoclinic crystal or crystalline powder; when recrystallized from an ethanol-water solution, it forms colorless plate-like or flaky crystals. It is odorless and has a characteristic bitter taste. The melting point is approximately 315°C. It is readily soluble in water (8.85g/100ml at 25°C), and its aqueous solution is acidic, with a pH of 5.5~7.0 for a 5% solution. It is almost insoluble in ethanol and diethyl ether. It is stable to heat, light, and air. Separation from leucine is difficult.
