Ferrous sulfate monohydrate 13463-43-9

Ferrous sulfate hydrate is a grayish-white to beige powder. It has an astringent taste. It consists primarily of FeSO₄·2H₂O and contains a small amount of FeSO₄·4H₂O. It is difficult to oxidize and is more stable than crystalline ferrous sulfate. Its aqueous solution is acidic and turbid, gradually forming a yellowish-brown precipitate. In moist air, it absorbs water to form the heptahydrate. It does not lose water when heated to 120°C. When boiled with water, it converts to a basic sulfate. It dissolves slowly in cold water (26.6 g/100 mL at 20°C) but dissolves rapidly when heated. It is insoluble in ethanol. It is practically insoluble in 50% sulfuric acid.
