Benzyl benzoate CAS 120-51-4

Benzyl benzoate is a small molecule ester compound with a simple structure and a faint balsamic aroma. It exists naturally in Peru balsam and Tolu balsam, and also in essential oils such as ylang-ylang oil, hyacinth oil, and tuberose oil. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. It is a good high-temperature solvent and the only solvent for musk. Its application in pharmaceuticals and perfumes is determined by its low volatility, good solvent properties, and the relatively stable characteristics of its esters. Benzyl benzoate is an agent for killing scabies, lice, and fleas. It is better than sulfur in killing scabies and has no irritation or greasy feeling. It can also be used as an anti-larvae agent and is often used in combination with butyl benzoate.
