2-methylimidazole is an intermediate of the drug metronidazole and feed growth promoter metronidazole, as well as a curing agent for epoxy resins and other resins. As a medium temperature curing agent for epoxy resin, it can be used alone, but is mainly used as a curing accelerator for powder forming and powder coating. Has hygroscopicity, soluble in water, alcohol, and insoluble in benzene. Irritating and corrosive to the skin and mucous membranes. This product is used for the synthesis of metronidazole and metronidazole, and is also a curing agent for epoxy resins.
