1. Flux For Soldering, Brazing And Galvanizing: Dissolves the oxide layer, so that solder and zinc coatings wet the surface and bond properly, making it a standard flux component for soldering, brazing and hot dip galvanizing lines.
2. Metal Cleaning, Pickling And Electroplating: Used in acidic pickling and cleaning solutions that prepare steel and iron for plating, and as a bath component in zinc electroplating where it raises conductivity and supports even, faster deposition of the zinc coating.
3. Chemical Activation Agent For Activated Carbon: A widely used activating agent in the chemical activation route, where biomass, wood, sawdust or other carbon precursors are impregnated with the salt and carbonised to develop a high internal surface area for adsorption and purification duty.
4. Lewis Acid Catalyst, Dehydrating And Condensing Agent: A strong Lewis acid that catalyses organic reactions and acts as a dehydrating and condensing agent in organic synthesis, and its deliquescent nature also makes it useful as a drying agent in processes that must be kept free of moisture.
5. Battery Electrolyte, Textile And Paper Processing: The electrolyte salt in zinc carbon dry cells, a mordant in textile printing and dyeing and a component of textile finishing, and a processing chemical in parchment paper and vulcanised fibre manufacture.
