Zinc Benzenesulfinate Dihydrate ZBS CAS 24308-84-7

Zinc benzenesulfinate dihydrate is an organozinc compound with the chemical formula (C₆H₅SO₂)₂Zn·2H₂O. It appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder, with a faint characteristic odor. Slightly soluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and dimethyl sulfoxide. Commonly used as a reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in radical reactions and as a source of benzenesulfinate anions. Also functions as a polymerization initiator, a crosslinking agent in rubber and polymer formulations, and as an intermediate in the production of other organosulfur compounds. Stable under normal storage conditions but hygroscopic; should be kept in tightly sealed containers away from moisture and strong oxidizing agents.
