Zinc Acetate Dihydrate CAS 5970-45-6 is used as a mordant in dyeing textiles; in preserving wood; in manufacturing glazes for painting on ceramics; and as an analytic reagent in measuring albumin, tannin, and phosphate. Other uses are as a crosslinking agent for polymers; and as a supplement in food. The compound is used in medicine as an astringent.

Application Scenarios:
Industrial Grade: Due to its weakly acidic salt properties, it is often used as a highly efficient and low-toxicity catalyst.
1. Synthesis Catalyst for Vinyl Acetate (VA): Zinc acetate dihydrate supported on activated carbon serves as a gas-phase catalyst for the acetylene synthesis of vinyl acetate. It significantly reduces the activation energy and improves conversion rate.
2. Polymerization Catalyst for Polyester (PET) and Polyurethane (PU): In the production of polyester clothing, beverage plastic bottles (PET), automotive seat foam, and building insulation foam (PU), zinc acetate dihydrate is often used as a catalyst for transesterification reactions, shortening the polycondensation reaction time.
3. Preservative and Anti-mildew Treatment for High-Grade Wood: In the preservation of outdoor wood flooring and wooden buildings, zinc acetate dihydrate solution is used to impregnate the wood, extending its service life.
Cosmetic/Daily Chemical Grade: Primarily functions as an antibacterial, astringent (tightening skin, oil control), and deodorizing agent.
1. Men's Oil-Control and Acne-Fighting Facial Cleanser/Toner
It penetrates deep into hair follicles to reduce sebum secretion (oil control) while inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, thus preventing and treating acne.
2. Antiperspirant and Anti-Odor Foot Spray
As an astringent, it temporarily constricts sweat gland ducts slightly, reducing perspiration; its high antibacterial properties kill odor-producing bacteria, eliminating odor at its source.
Food Grade/Feed Grade: Used as a nutritional fortifier, in high-end pet food and as a zinc supplement for poultry and livestock.
Zinc deficiency in animals can lead to hair loss, slow growth, and weakened immunity. Zinc acetate is an organic zinc salt commonly used in high-end cat food, dog food, and feed additives for weaned piglets, effectively preventing diarrhea in piglets.
