XYLAN CAS 9014-63-5

Xylan is a naturally occurring polysaccharide belonging to the hemicellulose family, composed predominantly of β-1,4-linked D-xylopyranose units. It appears as a white to off-white or light tan colored powder, odorless. Soluble in dilute alkaline solutions, but practically insoluble in water and most organic solvents. Commonly used in food processing as a dietary fiber additive, thickener, and texture modifier. Also functions as a raw material for the production of xylooligosaccharides (prebiotics), as a biopolymer in cosmetic formulations (such as films and emulsions), and in industrial applications including paper coating, adhesive additives, and biodegradable film production. Stable under normal storage conditions and should be kept in tightly sealed containers away from moisture.
