Trimethylsulfoxonium Bromide CAS 25596-24-1

Trimethylsulfoxonium bromide is an organic sulfur compound with the chemical formula (CH₃)₃SOBr. It appears as a white to off-white crystalline solid, with a faint characteristic odor. Soluble in water and polar organic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and dimethylformamide (DMF). Commonly used as a reagent for the generation of dimethyloxosulfonium methylide, a useful intermediate for methylenation reactions (the conversion of carbonyl compounds to epoxides or alkenes). Also functions as a phase-transfer catalyst and as a reactant in the synthesis of various heterocyclic compounds. Stable under normal storage conditions but hygroscopic; should be kept in tightly sealed containers away from moisture.
