Tosylchloride TsCl CAS 98-59-9

Tosylchloride is an organosulfur compound with the chemical formula CH₃C₆H₄SO₂Cl. It appears as colorless to pale yellow crystalline flakes or a molten liquid, with a pungent, characteristic odor. Insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, ether, and benzene. Commonly used as a reagent in organic synthesis for the introduction of tosyl (p-toluenesulfonyl) protecting groups for alcohols and amines. Also functions as a raw material in the production of sulfonamide derivatives, a catalyst or intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, and as a crosslinking agent in polymer chemistry. Moisture-sensitive; should be stored in tightly sealed containers away from moisture and strong bases.
