Phytol, also known as leaf green alcohol or phytol, is a natural diterpenoid alcohol compound with a molecular formula of C20H40O. It is a colorless to light yellow oily viscous liquid with a weak floral and resinous aroma. It is insoluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents. This compound naturally exists in tea, jasmine essential oil, and tobacco, and can be obtained by extracting from silkworm excrement or decomposing chlorophyll. In terms of industrial application, plant alcohol is mainly used as the synthetic intermediate of vitamin K1 and vitamin E, and it is also an excellent emulsifier and antioxidant in cosmetics (lipstick, foundation make-up, wax, etc.), which can improve the sense of use and reduce skin irritation.
