It is mainly used as an efficient solvent (such as a specialized solvent in pesticide emulsions) and an intermediate for the production of surfactants such as quaternary ammonium salts and amine oxides. In industry, it can also be used as a mineral flotation agent and metal corrosion inhibitor.
