Magnesium fluoride, chemical formula MgF2, molecular weight 62.31, colorless tetrahedral crystal or white powder. Purple fluorescence occurs under the light. Soluble in nitric acid, difficult to dissolve in water and ethanol. Melting point 1248 ℃, boiling point 2239 ℃, relative density 3.148. Toxic. Used as a spectral reagent, it is also applied in optical glass, ceramics, fluorescent materials for cathode ray screens, and electronics industries. It is also used for electrolyzing aluminum to reduce electrolysis temperature and improve current efficiency.
