What is Dibutyl sebacate?
Dibutyl Sebacate (DBS) is a dibasic acid ester plasticizer produced by the esterification of sebacic acid with n-butanol. It is characterized by its excellent low-temperature flexibility, low volatility, and good plasticizing efficiency. DBS exhibits strong solvating power and fast gelation with PVC resins. It offers good resistance to extraction by water and provides a soft, flexible feel to polymer compounds. As a sebacate ester, it is known for its favorable toxicological profile and is widely used in applications requiring food contact or low toxicity.

Application:
1. Dibutyl sebacate used as a primary plasticizer in PVC compounds for food packaging films, cling wraps, and bottle cap liners.
2. Employed in PVC medical devices such as blood bags and infusion tubing due to its low toxicity.
3. Dibutyl sebacate applied in synthetic rubbers and elastomers to enhance low-temperature flexibility.
4. It used in cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate lacquers as a plasticizer.
5. Employed in polyurethane adhesives and coatings to improve flexibility.
6. Used in cosmetic and personal care products as an emollient and solvent.
7. Applied as a lubricant in fine mechanical parts and synthetic lubricants.
Safety profile:
Dibutyl Sebacate is considered to have very low toxicity and is approved for use in food-contact applications and medical devices by various regulatory bodies (e.g., FDA 21 CFR 175.105, 21 CFR 181.27, USP/NF). It is non-irritating to skin and eyes under normal handling conditions. Good industrial hygiene practices should be maintained. Use gloves and safety glasses when handling.
Storage requirements:
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Keep containers tightly closed to prevent moisture absorption and contamination. Recommended storage temperature: 10-40°C. Store away from strong oxidizing agents.
Transport & Packaging:
DBS is typically supplied in 200 kg steel or HDPE drums. Classified as non-hazardous for transport.
