Zinc stearate
CAS NO 557-05-1
Alias:Afco-chem ZNS;Zinc Stearate, Zno;stavinorzn-e
Molecular formula:C36H70O4Zn
Molecular weight:632.33
Structural formula:
1.Performance and use
Zinc stearate is white lightweight fine powder. Molecular formula ZN(C17H35COO)2,molecular structure RCOOZnOOCR(R is mixed alkyl in industrial stearic acid),combustible, specific gravity 1.095,auto ignition point 900℃,density 1.095,melting point 130℃,slippery. Insoluble in water, ethanol, ether, soluble in hot ethanol, turpentine, benzene and other organic solvents and acids.
Zinc stearate dissolves in organic solvents when heated and becomes gelatinous when cold, and decomposes into stearic acid and corresponding zinc salt when met with strong acid. It is lubricating, hygroscopic, non-toxic, slightly irritating, non-polluting and non-hazardous properties. By utilizing the property that zinc stearate is soluble in benzene while calcium stearate is insoluble in benzene, it is possible to separate zinc stearate and calcium stearate.
