Barium stearate
CAS NO. 6865-35-6
Alias:Barium bis(stearate)
Molecular formula:C36H70BaO4
Molecular weight:704.27
Structural formula:
1.Performance and use
Barium stearate is a white or slightly yellow amorphous powder that is insoluble in water but soluble in hot ethanol, benzene, toluene, and other non-polar solvents. When heated and dissolved in organic solvents and cooled, it forms a gel like substance and has water absorption properties in air. Barium stearate will decompose into stearic acid and corresponding barium salts when exposed to strong hot acids
2.Technical indicators
Application | pigments, paper-making,glass |
Whiteness | 98%-99% |
D50(micron) | 0.08-0.7 |
D97(micron) | 0.2-2.5 |
Oil absorption(g/100g) | 13-22 |
Specific gravity(g/cm3) | 4.2-4.4 |
3. Packaging and storage
Packaging: Barium stearate is a composite packaging with an inner plastic bag and an outer woven bag. The packaging specifications are: 20 kg/bag or 10 kg.
Storage: Keep away from sources of fire and moisture.
4. Safety protection
Barium stearate is in powder form and is prone to generating dust during operation. If barium stearate dust is inhaled, it may cause irritation to the respiratory tract, leading to symptoms such as coughing and wheezing. Therefore, suitable protective masks such as dust masks or N95 masks should be worn during operation to prevent dust inhalation.
Barium stearate in contact with the skin may cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. Appropriate protective gloves, such as rubber gloves or nitrile gloves, should be worn during operation to avoid direct skin contact with barium stearate.
If accidentally in contact with barium stearate, immediately rinse the contact area with plenty of water. If symptoms such as skin allergies occur, seek medical attention promptly.
