1.Performance and use
Polyethylene glycol is an adduct of polyethylene oxide and water, abbreviated as "PEG". For molecules with a molecular weight below 700, it is a colorless, odorless, non-volatile viscous liquid at 20 ℃, with slight water absorption; Those with a molecular weight between 700 and 900 are considered semi-solid; Those with a molecular weight of 1000 or above are light white waxy solids or flocculent paraffin or mobile powders.
As the molecular weight increases, its water solubility, vapor pressure, water absorption, and solubility in organic solvents decrea
se accordingly, while its freezing point, relative density, flash point, and viscosity increase accordingly. It is thermally stable and does not work with many chemicals, does not hydrolyze, and has different properties depending on the average molecular weight. Can be used as plasticizers, softeners, humidifiers, lubricants, and in the production of ointments and pharmaceuticals.
