What is Diethylene Glycol？

Diethylene glycol is an important aliphatic diol organic chemical raw material, belonging to the same series of ethylene glycol. Its molecular structure contains two hydroxyl groups (- OH) and one ether bond (- O -), and its unique structure gives it excellent solubility, reactivity, and low volatility.

Application:

1. Solvent and extractant:

As a polar solvent, it is widely used in the coatings and ink industries to dissolve film-forming substances such as alkyd resin and acrylic resin, and improve the fluidity and adhesion of coatings; Also used in the petrochemical industry as an aromatic hydrocarbon extractant to separate light aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene and toluene.

2. Daily chemical and cosmetics industry:

food grade diethylene glycol as a humectant is added to skin care products (lotion, face cream), toothpaste, mouthwash and other products, which can lock up moisture, extend product shelf life, and is mild and non irritating to the skin; It can also be used as a solvent for essence and pigment to improve the stability of daily chemicals.

3. Antifreeze and coolant:

Formulated with ethylene glycol to produce industrial grade antifreeze, used in automotive engines, central air conditioning, and industrial equipment cooling systems to lower freezing points, prevent equipment from freezing and cracking at low temperatures, and have certain anti-corrosion properties to protect metal pipelines.

4. Chemical intermediates:

Diethylene glycol dibenzoate (plasticizer) is synthesized through esterification reaction and used in PVC plastics and rubber products to enhance product flexibility; Synthesis of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (solvent) through etherification reaction, used for printing inks and electronic cleaning agents.

5. Textile and paper industry:

as a textile additive, used for fiber softening and anti-static treatment to improve fabric feel; In the paper industry, as a paper wetting agent, it improves the smoothness and printing adaptability of paper.

Safety profile:

Operation protection: When operating industrial grade products, chemical resistant gloves and goggles should be worn to avoid direct skin contact and steam inhalation; The operating area should be well ventilated and equipped with eye wash stations and emergency sprinkler systems; If accidentally ingested, seek medical attention immediately and carry the product label.

Storage requirements:

Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated enclosed warehouse, away from fire and heat sources. The temperature of the warehouse should be controlled between 5 ℃ and 30 ℃, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperature environments (temperatures above 60 ℃ may accelerate oxidation).

Maintain a relative humidity of less than 60% to prevent packaging damage from causing the product to absorb moisture (although this product is easily soluble in water, the mixing of moisture may affect the purity of downstream products).
