Diethylene glycol methyl ether is a low toxicity substance with an acute oral toxicity (LD50) greater than 4500mg/kg (in rats). It is less irritating when in contact with the skin, but long-term or repeated exposure may cause dryness and defatting of the skin (due to the solvent's lipophilic properties). Inhaling high concentrations of steam (>500ppm) may cause central nervous system discomfort symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and fatigue.
