It is slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, and insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether. It is often used as an anti-caking agent, acidity regulator, nutritional supplement (fortified calcium), flavor enhancer, stabilizer, moisture retainer, and as an antacid in medicine.
