What is Brominated Polystyrene？

Brominated Polystyrene is a high molecular weight polymeric flame retardant produced by bromination of polystyrene. This additive-type flame retardant offers excellent thermal stability, high bromine content, and good compatibility with various engineering plastics. Unlike some small molecule brominated flame retardants, BPS does not migrate or bloom to the surface, making it particularly valuable for applications requiring long-term stability and reliability. Safety profile:

Brominated Polystyrene is considered to have low toxicity and good environmental profile compared to small molecule brominated flame retardants. It shows no evidence of bioaccumulation and has low water solubility. However, as with all fine powders, inhalation should be avoided. The product is stable under normal conditions but may decompose at high temperatures releasing hydrogen bromide.
