Zinc acetate is a compound with the formula Zn(CH3CO2)2, which commonly occurs as the dihydrate Zn(CH3CO2)2·2H2O. Both the hydrate and the anhydrous forms are colorless solids that are used as dietary supplements. When used as a food additive, it has the E number E650.

Industrial Grade: Primarily utilizes the catalytic properties of its weakly acidic salts.
1. Polymer and Chemical Synthesis Catalyst: Zinc acetate catalyst is the primary catalyst in the acetylene process for preparing vinyl acetate (a core raw material for the production of PVA, polyvinyl alcohol, and EVA plastics).
2. Polyester and Dyeing: Used as a polycondensation catalyst in polyester fiber (PET) production; used as a raw material for dyeing mordants and fabric waterproofing agents in the dyeing industry.
3. Zinc Oxide (ZnO) Nanomaterials: Due to its excellent solubility in water and alcohol, zinc acetate is the preferred precursor for the sol-gel process to prepare nano-zinc oxide, zinc oxide films, and nanowires. These materials are widely used in solar cells, sensors, piezoelectric elements, and semiconductors.
4. Wood Preservative: Zinc acetate solution has excellent antifungal and anti-insect properties and can be used for wood impregnation. It penetrates into wood fibers, preventing wood from rotting due to moisture or being infested by termites.
Feed Grade - Trace Element Additive:
Zinc is an essential trace element for animal growth, immunity, and reproduction. Zinc acetate, as an organic zinc source, has a significantly higher bioavailability than zinc sulfate or zinc oxide, which are difficult for young animals to absorb. It is commonly used in high-grade piglet feed, effectively preventing diarrhea, promoting intestinal mucosal development, and improving immunity and coat luster.
