Trimethyl Borate CAS 121-43-7

Trimethyl borate is an organoboron compound with the chemical formula B(OCH₃)₃. It appears as a colorless liquid with a pungent, sweet, ester-like odor. Reacts with water (hydrolyzes), but soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, diethyl ether, and tetrahydrofuran. Commonly used as a reagent in organic synthesis for the preparation of boronic esters and as a source of boric acid in various chemical reactions. Also functions as a flame retardant additive, a crosslinking agent in polymer and resin formulations, and as a precursor for the chemical vapor deposition of boron-containing films. Highly moisture-sensitive; should be stored in tightly sealed containers away from water and humidity.
