Sodium iodide CAS 7681-82-5

Sodium Iodide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaI. It appears as a white, crystalline solid or powder with a salty, bitter taste and no distinct odor. Highly soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohol. Commonly used as a source of iodide in analytical chemistry, as a reagent in organic synthesis (e.g., Finkelstein reaction for alkyl iodide preparation), and as an additive in certain industrial processes including photographic chemicals and animal feed supplements. Also used in specialty halogen lighting and as a component in some disinfectant formulations. Stable under normal conditions but may discolor when exposed to light or air due to iodine oxidation.
