Sodium phosphate tribasic dodecahydrate (Trisodium phosphate dodecahydrate, or TSP) is a highly alkaline, crystalline chemical compound (Na₃PO₄ ⋅ 12H₂O). It is primarily used as a heavy-duty industrial cleaner, a pH buffer, a water softener, and a food additive.

Industrial Grade:
1. Industrial Water Treatment (Boiler Chemical Descaling and Corrosion Prevention):
Boiler Scale Inhibitor: Add trisodium phosphate dodecahydrate (commonly known as boiler phosphate treatment) to the boiler water of industrial boilers or thermal power plants. It reacts with calcium and magnesium hardness ions in the water to generate loose, non-sticky calcium phosphate and magnesium phosphate flowing sludge. This sludge does not accumulate on the boiler wall to form hard boiler stone and can be easily removed through regular blowdown.
Metal Corrosion Protection and Passivation: Phosphate ions can also form a dense iron-phosphate protective film (passivation film) on the steel surface of boilers and pipes, preventing dissolved oxygen in the water from corroding the metal pipe walls.
2. Textile, Printing and Dyeing, and Paper Industry:
Printing and Dyeing Auxiliaries: Used as an alkali agent and water softener during cotton scouring and dyeing processes, it can remove natural pectin and waxes from cotton fibers, ensuring uniform dye application.
Paper Bleaching: Used as a buffer and complexing agent to prevent iron ions in the pulp from causing yellowing during pulp preparation.
3. Industrial and Household Cleaning Agents (Powerful Degreasing)
* **Metal Surface Cleaning (Pre-plating Treatment):** Before electroplating, painting, or electroless plating, metal workpieces must be thoroughly cleaned of surface oils and rust-preventive oils. Alkaline cleaning solutions prepared with trisodium dodecahydrate can quickly saponify and emulsify greases, achieving highly efficient degreasing.
* **Heavy-Duty Stain Remover:** Widely used in industrial laundry detergents, dishwasher detergents, heavy-duty kitchen cleaners, and for removing grease from fabrics in the printing and dyeing industry. It softens hard water, greatly enhancing the cleaning effectiveness of surfactants.
* **Building and Renovation Industry:** Pre-painting Wall Cleaning (TSP Treatment):** Before renovating old houses or repainting walls, workers often use trisodium dodecahydrate solution to clean walls. It thoroughly removes stubborn grease, mold, and stains from old walls. More importantly, its strong alkaline properties slightly degrease and roughen old paint surfaces, greatly enhancing the adhesion of new latex paint or coatings to the wall, preventing future peeling and flaking.

1. Meat and Seafood Processing: Used in the processing of ham, sausages, fish paste, and shrimp as a water-retaining agent. It improves the water retention of meat, making it more tender after cooking and reducing nutrient loss during processing.
2. Dairy and Cheese: Used as an emulsifying salt in cheese processing to prevent fat separation during heating, resulting in a smooth and even texture.
3. Grains and Noodles: Added to instant noodles, it improves dough elasticity, making noodles more elastic and less likely to become mushy in soup.
