Naphthalene (CAS 91-20-3) is a structurally simplest polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, appearing as white, volatile plate-like crystals with a unique odor of sanitary balls or coal tar. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in various organic solvents, with a melting point of about 80 ℃. It is an important basic raw material for the industrial production of phthalic anhydride, dyes, resins, insecticides and other products.
