1. Building Block For Polyester And Alkyd Resins: Reacted into unsaturated polyester and alkyd resin systems where it contributes flexibility and hydrolytic stability, and it is a preferred diol in dicyclopentadiene based unsaturated polyester formulations and in resins that must resist moisture over long service.
2. Feedstock For Plasticizer And Acrylate Esters: Esterified with benzoic acid it produces dipropylene glycol dibenzoate plasticizers, and esterified with acrylic acid it yields dipropylene glycol diacrylate for radiation cured coatings, giving formulators one diol intermediate for both product families.
3. Polyurethane And Polyol Intermediate: Used as an initiator in the synthesis of urethane polyols and as the polyol component in rigid polyurethane foam, where it adds flexibility and raises resistance to cracking at low service temperatures.
4. High Boiling Point Solvent: Its low vapour pressure and high boiling range make it a carrier and coupling solvent in architectural and industrial coatings, printing inks, nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate lacquers, brake fluid formulations, cutting fluids, textile lubricants and agricultural formulations.
5. Fragrance And Personal Care Grade: A distilled grade above 99.5% purity that acts as a carrier and diluent for fragrance oils, binding the odour elements and slowing their release, and as a solvent, viscosity regulator and masking agent in skin care, hair care, deodorant, shaving and bath products.
